Both kids are sleeping 12 hours at night, and during this past month we have made the transition to one nap. Sofie was not quite as ready as Jackson, but she has adjusted. I love now having our mornings free to get out and about before it turns into a sauna outside. A typical day for us usually has the kids waking up about 7-7:30ish. After they've had breakfast and the kitchen is cleaned up, we almost always get out of the house and do something unless someone is sick. This is when we do doctor's appointments, play dates, their gym class, go the the Y, or go for a walk in the neighborhood. They usually eat a fairly early lunch, then go down for their nap around 12 or 12:30. They are tired and fall asleep without a fight and usually sleep for a good 2-2.5 hours, occasionally 3. After they wake, we usually play upstairs in the playroom or run an errand before dinner if we need to. Usually Brian is home by this point so I can run my errands alone. The kids eat dinner about 5:15-5:30ish, then happily play until bath time around 6:30. They go to bed at 7:00 and Brian and I get a few hours to ourselves which flies by until we both crash and we start all over again.
Sofie - We saw an ENT this week and tubes were recommended. We've been seeing a chiropractor for a few weeks (to help with ear drainage), but I'm not sure how much that's helped??? We are also going in for some bloodwork tomorrow and she is being tested for quite a few food and respiratory allergies which could be causing the chronic congestion/fluid build-up in the ears. We can't do the tubes until July, so we'll see what comes of the other two scenarios. If she has no allergies (besides milk, which we are already aware of) and if the ears don't start draining from the chiropractic care, then we will be getting tubes in July (likely, in my opinion)! Poor baby hasn't had "clear" ears since this winter. The ear infections go away, but she always has fluid left in her ears that won't drain.
She is still a little mama's girl... loves to snuggle, be held, and climb all over me. Sofie is a little mother hen to Jackson. If he doesn't have his milk or water, she brings it to him. She brings him his shoes and clothes in the morning. Today he had a bowl of dry Cheerios and he wasn't interested in them anymore, but Sofie kept trying to bring him his bowl. She is always watching out for her little brother! Sofie loves to wave at everyone and she swings her arms when she walks around... it's so cute. She's not saying quite as many words as Jackson, but some of her's include: mama, dada, ball, bye-bye, doggy, plane, nana, no-no, bow, me-me (milk), shoes, and cheese. She LOVES her milk. I think she would just drink her meals in milk all day if I'd let her. We are still doing rice, soy, and almond milk for both kids. Sofie is not the world's greatest eater. I give her lots of things to try, but she just stares at it or puts it in her mouth, then spits it out. We are walking a real fine line with her right now, trying to make sure she gets enough calories, yet trying not to concede and always give her her "favorites" that we know she'll eat at every meal. She still loves most things that are pureed. Sometimes I wonder if she will still be eating baby food when she's an adult! Avocado, cheese, spaghetti, pasta, broccoli, soy yogurt and cereal are her favorites. Sofie also likes to have bows in her hair. If she sees a hair bow or takes hers out, she'll bring it to me and insist on having it put back in her hair. She is definitely our little princess and she knows it.
Jackson - Luckily we are not having ear issues with him! He's had some ear infections, but his ears clear up much better than Sofie's do. When I get Jackson out of his crib in the morning, the first thing he usually says to me is, "Dada?" "Dada's at work, he'll be home later," I reply. We have this same conversation many more times as the day goes on :) His two favorite activities, besides chasing Sofie, are riding his ride-on toys around and looking at books. I would list his favorite books, but it would be almost every book we have, I think. He often growls while he looks at "Where the Wild Things Are" which he is still obsessed with. He loves taking off his shoes, then pulling out the soles and chewing on them, which of course drives me nuts! He's acquiring quite the vocabulary list: mama, dada, ball, Elmo, doggy, clock, bread, ah-ca (avocado), maw-maw-wa (watermelon), shoes, cheese, doctor, wa wa (this means waffle, wagon, wheel, and water), up/down, couch, all done, no-no, bow-bah (brown bear), moon, nana, bye-bye, cracker, cookie, and light. He is a very good eater and most days he'll eat whatever we give him. Definitely the opposite of his sister when it comes to eating! If he really likes something he'll say "Mmmmmmmmmmm!" as he is chewing. He is a very happy, independent little boy!
Both kiddos got their MMR shot today, and Jackson barely even cried... tough guy! Here are their stats from our 15 month check up today...
